Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
