Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players around the world. While competing in web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world might be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
